The MJIIX International Research and Innovation Competition 2026 aims to foster creativity, innovation, and research collaboration between higher education institutions and industry partners. The competition provides a platform for participants to showcase innovative ideas, projects, and prototypes that address real-world industrial and societal challenges while promoting technology development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable innovation.
BACKGROUND
Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) is a faculty of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). MJIIT is located in the UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus, strategically situated in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia.
MJIIT brings together diverse fields such as Electronics System Engineering, Mechanical Precision Engineering, Chemical Process Engineering, Software Engineering, and Technology Management under one roof. The research structure of MJIIT is built around specialized research groups known as i-Kohza, each fostering strong industry linkages in their respective areas.

Following the success of Malaysia-Japan Industrial & Innovation Expo (MJIIX) 2025, which combined events like Japan Day and the Career Fair, this year, MJIIX 2026 will shift its full focus towards wider industry participation at the national level. The program will feature industry exhibitions, the MJL-JACTIM Research Competition 2026, a Coffee Talk session, Premier Lecture Series, dialogue/forums, and laboratory tours. This will allow industry partners to engage directly with MJIIT's research capabilities and facilities.

🎯 1. Objectives
The MJIIX International Research and Innovation Competition 2026 aims to foster creativity, innovation, and research collaboration between higher education institutions and industry partners. The competition provides a platform for participants to showcase innovative ideas, projects, and prototypes that address real-world industrial and societal challenges while promoting technology development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable innovation.
👥 2. Participants & Eligibility
- The competition is open to undergraduate students, postgraduate students, researchers, lecturers, and academic staff from higher education institutions worldwide.
- Teams may comprise participants from the same or different academic disciplines and institutions.
- All submitted projects must be original and developed solely by the participating team.
- Participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, visa arrangements, and other related expenses required to attend the Final Presentation Session if shortlisted.
