Introduction

The Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE) Committee Unit of MJIIT is committed to fostering a safe, healthy, and sustainable working and learning environment for all members of the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) community.

Guided by Japanese work culture that emphasizes discipline, continuous improvement, and quality practices such as 5S and Kaizen, the MJIIT OSHE Unit is responsible for ensuring that all academic activities, laboratory research, and facility management comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (OSHA 1994) as well as regulations established by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. We believe that safety is a shared responsibility and a fundamental element in achieving excellence within the university community.

Objectives of MJIIT OSHE

The primary objectives of this unit are to:

  • Ensure Community Safety
    To minimize the risk of accidents and hazards in offices, lecture halls, and particularly within MJIIT research laboratories, ensuring a safe environment for staff and students.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    To ensure that all institute activities comply with applicable occupational safety, health, and environmental regulations enforced by relevant authorities, including the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
  • Promote a Prevention Culture
    To cultivate a strong culture of safety awareness among staff and students through continuous training, safety briefings, and regular inspections.
  • Risk Management
    To continuously implement the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) process in identifying potential hazards and mitigating risks before incidents occur.
  • Environmental Sustainability
    To manage laboratory chemical waste and scheduled waste systematically in support of environmental sustainability initiatives across the UTM Kuala Lumpur campus.
