Following the success of MJIIX 2025, which combined events like Japan Day and the Career Fair, This year, MJIIX 2026 will shift its full focus towards wider industry participation at the national level. The program will feature industry exhibitions, the MJL-JACTIM Research Competition 2026, a Coffee Talk session, Premier Lecture Series, dialogue/forums, and laboratory tours. This will allow industry partners to engage directly with MJIIT's research capabilities and facilities.

The competition is open to undergraduate students, postgraduate students,
researchers, lecturers, and academic staff from higher education institutions.
• Participants may submit individually or as a team of up to five (5) participants from one
or more higher education institutions and/or collaborating industry partners.
• The first author of each submission must be affiliated with a higher education
institution. Industry representatives may participate as co-authors or co-participants
where applicable.
• All submitted projects must be original, with appropriate acknowledgement of all
contributors and collaborating organisations.
• Participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, visa arrangements,
and other related expenses required to attend the Poster Showcase if accepted.

Participants are required to submit an extended abstract for their innovation project in accordance with the prescribed extended abstract template.
• All submissions should demonstrate relevance to current industry needs, challenges, applications, or societal needs, as applicable to the nature of the project. Projects developed in collaboration with industry partners are strongly encouraged.
• Participants whose submissions have been accepted shall prepare and display a poster based on their accepted extended abstract during the Poster Showcase. The poster shall be presented in the form of a 2 ft × 6 ft T-style bunting. The poster design is open format, provided that it clearly communicates the innovation project and addresses the evaluation criteria specified in Section 8.
• The extended abstract template will be provided through the submission portal.
• The extended abstract shall clearly identify the first author and the institutional
affiliation of each author. The first author must be affiliated with a higher education
institution.
• All submissions, posters, and supporting materials shall be prepared in British English.
• Participants are required to indicate whether they consent to the possible publication of their work in the peer-reviewed proceedings of MJIIX IRIC 2026.
• Participants who consent to publication must submit the Copyright and Publication Consent Form with their submission. Those who do not consent are not required to submit the form.
• Publication is subject to the applicable publication requirements, editorial screening, and peer-review processes, and consent to publication does not constitute a guarantee of publication.
• The Organising Committee reserves the right to reject, withdraw, or disqualify any
submission found to contain plagiarism, fabricated data, false information, or any
breach of academic integrity or competition rules.
• The Organising Committee reserves the right to request additional information or
supporting documents to verify the eligibility, originality, authorship, or ownership of any submission.

Only shortlisted participants are required to pay the following participation fees

• Payment can be made via UTM Payhub by scanning the QR code provided.
• Use "MJIIX IRIC 2026" as the payment reference when making the payment.
• Participants whose submissions have been accepted shall complete the payment
process by 9 September 2026. Successful payment of the participation fee shall
confirm the registration of the accepted submission and its participant(s) for the
Poster Showcase.
• Participation fees are non-refundable once payment has been made, except in the
event that the Poster Showcase is cancelled by the Organiser.
• Failure of an accepted submission to be represented by at least one registered
participant

• The competition will be conducted through a physical Poster Showcase on 28 September 2026 at the designated MJIIX IRIC 2026 venue. Virtual participation will not be permitted.
• Each accepted submission must be represented by at least one registered participant throughout the designated evaluation period.
• Participants shall display their innovation posters based on their accepted extended abstracts and remain available at their designated poster location throughout the evaluation period to explain their innovation projects and respond to questions from the judging panel.
• A submission that is not represented by at least one registered participant throughout the designated evaluation period shall be disqualified from the competition and shall not be eligible for any competition awards.
• The judging panel will visit each poster during the designated evaluation period to
assess the innovation project and engage the participant(s) in discussion.
• All submissions shall be evaluated by the judging panel during the Poster Showcase based on the evaluation criteria and rubric set out in Section 8.
• The final evaluation scores awarded by the judging panel shall determine the competition awards.
• The decision of the judging panel shall be final, and no appeals shall be entertained.

• All intellectual property rights in the submitted projects shall remain with the participants.
• Accepted submissions from participants who consent to publication and complete the participation fee payment may be considered for inclusion in the peer-reviewed proceedings of MJIIX IRIC 2026, subject to editorial screening, applicable publication requirements, and peer-review processes.
• Participation and judging shall not be affected by a participant's decision not to consent to publication.
• The editorial screening and peer-review processes will commence after the Poster Showcase. Eligible participants will be contacted by the Organising Committee with further instructions.
• Consent to publication does not guarantee publication.
• The proceedings will be registered for an eISBN with the National Library of Malaysia (Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia). 
• Submission of the Copyright and Publication Consent Form grants MJIIX a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, archive, display, publish, and use the submitted materials for academic, promotional, documentation, and archival purposes related to MJIIX IRIC 2026, with appropriate acknowledgement of the participants.

• The Organising Committee reserves the right to amend these Terms of Reference, the competition schedule, judging process, or event arrangements where necessary. Any amendments will be communicated to participants via email and may also be published on the official MJIIX 2026 website.
• The Organising Committee reserves the right to postpone, reschedule, suspend, relocate, or cancel the competition or any part thereof due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, public health emergencies, government directives, or other unforeseen events.
• In the event of any dispute regarding the interpretation of these Terms of Reference, the English version shall prevail.
