Following the success of MJIIX 2025, which combined events like Japan Day and the Career Fair, This year, MJIIX 2026 will shift its full focus towards wider industry participation at the national level. The program will feature industry exhibitions, the MJL-JACTIM Research Competition 2026, a Coffee Talk session, Premier Lecture Series, dialogue/forums, and laboratory tours. This will allow industry partners to engage directly with MJIIT's research capabilities and facilities.

• The competition is open to undergraduate students, postgraduate students,
researchers, lecturers, and academic staff from higher education institutions
worldwide.
• Participants may submit entries individually or as a team. Teams may comprise
participants from the same or different academic disciplines and institutions.
• Each submission may consist of a maximum of five (5) participants.
• All submitted projects must be original and developed solely by the submitting
participant(s).
• Participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, visa arrangements,
and other related expenses required to attend the Final Presentation Session
if shortlisted.

Participants are required to submit an extended abstract and a one-slide graphical
abstract for their innovation project.
• The extended abstract shall include the following components:
i. Project title
ii. Abstract
iii. Introduction
iv. Methodology
v. Results and Discussion
vi. Conclusion
vii. References

All submissions must demonstrate clear relevance to current industry needs,
challenges, or applications. Projects developed in collaboration with industry
partners are strongly encouraged and will be viewed favourably under the Industry
Relevance and Collaboration evaluation criterion.
• The one-slide graphical abstract must clearly summarise the innovation,
methodology, and expected impact of the project.
• The submitted one-slide graphical abstract shall serve as the official presentation
slide for the Final Presentation Session. Any substantial modifications after
submission shall be subject to approval by the Organising Committee.
• The extended abstract template will be provided through the submission portal.
• All submissions, presentation materials, and presentations must be prepared and
delivered in British English.
• The Organising Committee reserves the right to reject, withdraw, or disqualify any
submission found to contain plagiarism, fabricated data, false information, or any
breach of academic integrity or competition rules.
• The Organising Committee reserves the right to request additional information or
supporting documents to verify the eligibility, originality, authorship, or ownership
of any submission.

Only shortlisted participants are required to pay the following participation fees

• Payment can be made via UTM Payhub by scanning the QR code provided.
• Use "MJIIX IRIC 2026" as the payment reference when making the payment.
• Shortlisted participants shall complete the payment process by 9 September 2026.
Successful payment of the participation fee shall confirm the participant's
registration for the Final Presentation Session.
• Participation fees are non-refundable once payment has been made, except in the
event that the Final Presentation Session is cancelled by the Organiser.
• Failure of shortlisted participants to attend the Final Presentation Session,
regardless of reason, shall not entitle them to a refund.

• Participants shortlisted for Stage 3 shall present their projects during the Final
Presentation Session on 28 September 2026.
• All shortlisted participants shall deliver their presentations physically at the MJIIX
IRIC 2026 venue. Virtual presentations will not be permitted.
• Each shortlisted submission must be presented by at least one registered
participant during the Final Presentation Session.
• A shortlisted submission that is not represented by at least one registered
participant during the scheduled Final Presentation Session shall be disqualified
from the competition and shall not be eligible for any competition awards.
• Presentation format:
• 3-minute presentation
• 5-minute question-and-answer session
• Winners and award recipients shall be determined based on the final evaluation
scores obtained during the Final Presentation Session.
• The decision of the judges shall be final, and no appeals shall be entertained

• The evaluation criteria and rubric shall serve as the basis for assessment throughout the
competition.
• Stage 2: Submissions will be evaluated based on the extended abstract and one-slide
graphical abstract for shortlisting purposes only. Presentation Skills will not be assessed
at this stage, and the evaluation scores shall not contribute to the determination of
competition awards.
• Stage 3: Shortlisted participants will be evaluated based on their presentation and
question-and-answer session. Presentation Skills will be assessed only during the
Final Presentation Session
1) Creativity and Innovation (20%)
Evaluate the originality, novelty, and innovativeness of the idea or project.
2) Industry Relevance and Collaboration (25%)
Evaluate the project's relevance to current industry needs, challenges, or applications, and
the extent of industry collaboration or engagement, where applicable.
3) Impact and Sustainability (20%)
Evaluate the potential societal, economic, environmental, and long-term sustainability
impact of the innovation.
4) Commercialisation Potential (25%)
Evaluate the potential for commercialisation, market adoption, and business viability.
5) Presentation Skills (10%)
Evaluate the clarity,

• All intellectual property rights in the submitted projects shall remain with the
participants.
• By submitting their work, participants grant MJIIX a non-exclusive, royalty-free
licence to reproduce, archive, display, publish, and use the submitted
materials for promotional, documentation, educational, and archival purposes
related to MJIIX IRIC 2026, with proper acknowledgement to the participants.

• The Organising Committee reserves the right to amend these Terms of
Reference, the competition schedule, judging process, or event arrangements
where necessary. Any amendments will be communicated to participants via
email and published on the official MJIIX 2026 website.
• The Organising Committee reserves the right to postpone, reschedule, suspend,
relocate, or cancel the competition or any part thereof due to circumstances
beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters,
public health emergencies, government directives, or other unforeseen events.
• In the event of any dispute regarding the interpretation of these Terms of
Reference, the English version shall prevail.
