DILI, May 10 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) sent a delegation of five representatives from the Student Recruitment & Admission Section (SRAdS) and the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) to participate in the Malaysia Expo Dili (MYExpo Dili) 2025, held at the Dili Convention Centre.

This expo was initiated and supported by the Embassy of Malaysia in Dili, Timor-Leste, and organized by My Events International Sdn. Bhd. The UTM delegation was led by Associate Professor Dr. Roshafima Rasit Ali, Sr Dr. Shuib Rambat, Ts Dr. Abd Halim Md Ali, and Ir Dr. Shahira Liza Kamis from MJIIT UTM, as well as Amirul Fareezwan Aminudin from SRAdS.

More than 30 Malaysian organizations participated in the two-day exhibition, covering diverse sectors such as education, engineering, aviation, healthcare, information technology, textiles, and consultancy. In the education sector, in addition to UTM, participating institutions included Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Asia Pacific University (APU), Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, Taylor’s University, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Manipal University College Malaysia.

The expo was officiated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, who also serves as the Minister of Economic Affairs, Tourism, and Environment Coordination, Datuk Seri Francisco Kalbuadi Lay. The opening ceremony also featured a keynote address by the Ambassador of Malaysia to Timor-Leste, Datuk Amarjit Sarjit Singh.

One of the key highlights of the event was a networking and engagement session, where UTM delegates had the opportunity to interact with students and representatives from international schools, as well as industry professionals in Timor-Leste. These sessions fostered meaningful exchanges and discussions, promoting global educational collaboration and mutual understanding.

In conjunction with MYExpo Dili 2025, the UTM MJIIT team also took the opportunity to visit Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) as a follow-up to their previous visit on 4 February 2025, which was led by the Dean of UTM MJIIT, Associate Professor Dr Nurulakmar Abu Husain. During this second visit, UTM held discussions with the Faculty of Engineering, Science, and Technology (FoECT) at UNTL to explore potential collaborations in areas such as staff and student exchange, joint research and publications, co-teaching and co-supervision, staff training, and co-hosting of conferences and events.

As part of this visit, Associate Professor Dr. Roshafima Rasit Ali, Deputy Dean (Academic & Student Affairs), conducted a special engagement session with over 50 students from FoECT-UNTL, providing an overview of UTM and the academic programs offered at MJIIT.

UTM looks forward to welcoming more students and staff from Timor-Leste in the future and remains committed to contributing to human capital development, particularly in the fields of science and technology.
