Malaysia-Japan International Institute Technology (MJIIT)
Software Engineering Industrial Revolutions (SEIR)
The Software Engineering Industrial Revolution (SEIR) Lab is a vibrant research and innovation hub situated at Level 3 of the MJIIT building, UTM Kuala Lumpur. The lab is actively supported by the student association SOF-EA (Software Engineering Association) and serves as a collaborative space for students, researchers, and industry partners.
In the era of Industry 4.0, we are experiencing a transformative convergence between the physical and digital worlds through technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). These systems not only monitor and interact with physical environments in real time but also communicate, collaborate, and make intelligent decentralized decisions and drastically change how we live, work, and build systems.
At the core of this transformation is software engineering, which plays a crucial role in powering smart, autonomous, and connected systems. The SEIR Lab embraces this shift by focusing on advanced software development practices, integrating AI and ML applications in real-world domains such as predictive maintenance, intelligent automation, adaptive systems, and data-driven decision making.
The iKohza of SEIR was established to spearhead fundamental and applied research in software engineering for the industrial revolution era. Through collaborative projects, industry engagement, and training initiatives, the lab aims to strengthen technical competencies among students and members, and foster innovation in building resilient, scalable, and intelligent software solutions for modern challenges.
Whether it’s through academic research, innovation workshops, or student-driven initiatives, the SEIR Lab continues to empower future software engineers with the tools and mindset needed to thrive in a digitally connected world.

Description of Research Focus Areas :
The Software Engineering Industrial Revolution (SEIR) Lab focuses on advancing software technologies to support the digital transformation driven by Industry 4.0. Our research explores the integration of software engineering practices with emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) to build intelligent, interconnected, and adaptive systems. Key focus areas include the development of smart automation, predictive analytics, and data-driven decision-making frameworks across various domains. Cybersecurity is also embedded in our work to ensure that these intelligent systems are not only efficient but also secure, trustworthy, and resilient against evolving threats. The lab emphasizes system resilience, software quality, and human–machine collaboration through innovative design, development, and testing strategies. In addition to industry collaboration, the SEIR Lab actively engages in research partnerships with other universities, both local and international. We host mobility research students and visiting professors, fostering global knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary innovation. Through both fundamental and applied research, SEIR Lab aims to bridge academic knowledge with real-world needs, cultivating a new generation of software engineers capable of delivering robust, scalable, and intelligent software solutions.
