GIZA, Oct 21 — The 10th International Conference on Advanced Technology and Applied Sciences (ICATAS 2025) kicked off on October 21 at the Smart Village Campus of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Giza, Egypt.

This year’s event was extra special as it also marked the 13th anniversary of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Malaysia–Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and AASTMT—a partnership that continues to promote international cooperation in research, education, and innovation.

The MJIIT delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nurulakmar Abu Husain, Dean of MJIIT, together with the ICATAS organizing committee members, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Pauziah Muhamad (Program Chair), Dr. Mohd Fitri Mohd Yakub (Publication Chair), Dr. Syarifah Zyurina Nordin (Organization Chair), and Dr. Zatul Alwani Shaffiei (Publicity Chair).

During the opening ceremony, both the Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, AASTMT, Prof. Khaled Shehata, and the Dean of MJIIT, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nurulakmar Abu Husain, delivered welcoming remarks. In her speech, Dr. Nurulakmar highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between MJIIT and AASTMT in advancing academic excellence and technological innovation.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the President of AASTMT, Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag. The ceremony was also attended by representatives from the Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo through its agency, Education Malaysia Egypt (EME), represented by YBhg. Dato’ Shamsul Najmi Hj. Shamsuddin, demonstrating strong support from Malaysian diplomatic and educational bodies. The opening ceremony also featured a symbolic exchange of gifts between the Dean of MJIIT and the President of AASTMT, reflecting mutual appreciation and commitment to continued collaboration.

Following the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nurulakmar, granted an interview to the Egyptian media on the collaboration between MJIIT and AASTMT, emphasizing its academic significance and long-term impact.

The conference featured two keynote speeches. The first was delivered by Dr. Nurulakmar, titled “Automotive Safety for Child Occupants: Perspectives from ASEAN NCAP Vehicle Assessment”, while the second was presented by Professor Ali Ali Fahmy, Dean of the College of Artificial Intelligence, AASTMT, titled “Metaheuristic Optimization Algorithms: Taxonomy, Open Problems and Applications”.

Beyond the keynote sessions, participants attended two industrial talks delivered by representatives from the Space Industry and Dell, along with four invited speeches from MJIIT delivered by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Pauziah Muhamad, Dr. Mohd Fitri Mohd Yakub, Dr. Syarifah Zyurina Nordin, and Dr. Zatul Alwani Shaffiei. These sessions provided valuable insights into recent advancements in science and technology.

Over the three-day event, 14 parallel sessions were held, covering topics such as computer engineering, communication engineering, mechanical engineering, applied chemistry, applied mathematics, industrial engineering and civil engineering.

A special meeting between MJIIT and AASTMT took place during the conference to discuss future collaborations, including joint research projects, student and staff exchange programs, and upcoming academic initiatives.

ICATAS 2025 concluded on October 23, 2025, with a closing ceremony that celebrated the success of the conference and reaffirmed both institutions’ shared commitment to strengthening international partnerships in science, technology, and innovation.
