Course Synopsis :
This course addresses the issues for building disaster resilience at the community level that are commonly the first responders to natural disasters. The course provides an insight into options for building disaster resilient communities, such as utilizing remote sensing for hazard mapping, vulnerability assessment, land use planning and participatory recovery planning. It will also cover Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) measures at the local levels including disaster education and awareness raising to build a “Culture of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)” and promote multi-stakeholders- and community based disaster programs. Case studies of post disaster events from Japan, Malaysia and other countries will be studied to understand actual situations from the field.
