KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 12 – A new milestone was achieved for the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) as over 200 alumni, industry leaders, and university stakeholders gathered in celebration of the official launch of the MJIIT Alumni Malaysia Chapter during the “Cahaya Raya MJIIT Alumni & Industry 2025” event, held at the Grand Ballroom, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Residensi. This event was co-organized and supported by UTM Alumni.
The evening was not just a festive Hari Raya gathering, but a proud moment of unity and progress as the alumni chapter took root on Malaysian soil, following the successful establishment of the UTM-MJIIT Japan Chapter last year in University of Tokyo, Japan.
Gracing the event were esteemed guests including His Excellency Shikata Noriyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia; Hernani Soares, Education Attaché representing the Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste; Prof. Ts. Dr. Ali Selamat, UTM Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) representing the Vice Chancellor; Dato’ Ir. Mohammed Noor Abu Hassan, Member of the UTM Board of Directors carrying the Alumni Representative portfolio; Prof. Dr. Shamsul Sahibuddin, Campus Director of UTM Kuala Lumpur; Ts. Dr. Abd Latif Saleh, Former Pro-Vice Chancellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Hisyam Rasidi, Director UTM Alumni.
MJIIT takes pride in its 2,586 alumni, representing over 30 countries, who are now making strides in diverse fields including engineering, public service, entrepreneurship, academia, and innovation. From Afghanistan to Yemen, these global changemakers are the living embodiment of MJIIT’s mission to produce world-class, Malaysia-Japan inspired engineers, technologists and corporate leaders.
The evening was brought to life with captivating cultural showcases, including a Silat performance by MJIIT staff, the vibrant Yosakoi dance by MJIIT Japanese Language and Cultural Center (JLCC), and heartfelt renditions from PENTAS MJIIT’s live band. Special guest Dina Nadzir and Fairuz Selamat, both well-known local vocalist, added a touch of star quality to the evening with their engaging presence and soulful performances.
The formation of the Malaysia Chapter is not just ceremonial but representation of a strategic move to strengthen lifelong bonds, unlock industry-alumni collaboration, and nurture future leaders grounded in Japanese values and Malaysian resilience.
This chapter is a promise—a promise that the bond between alumni and MJIIT will not fade with a mere graduation roll. Rather, it will evolve into a lifelong commitment to uplift one another, to build resilient communities, and to carry forward the MJIIT legacy with pride. As the alumni network grows stronger, UTM-MJIIT Alumni promises in Building Bonds and Building Legacies as together we are stronger; together we are MJIIT.
Thank you to all our alumni and industry partners who made this possible!
