MMJD 1223 FLOOD FORECASTING AND HAZARD MAPPING

Course Schedule : *Dates to be announced later

*Students are required to attend all lectures and complete 2 course assignments (group presentation and course report) to get certification. Please check for schedule updates with course coordinator.

Course Synopsis :

This course provides an insight into advanced methods, strategies, and technological flood forecasting and quantitative hazard assessment in a changing environment. Sediment runoff processes, flood hydraulics and mechanics of sediment transportation will be interactively explored. This course also offers the capacities of exploring hydrological predictions in poorly-gauged basins with the support of rainfall-runoff and flood inundation modelling. A series of site investigation, laboratory tools and advanced processing strategies will be critically discussed for assessing flood risk and advancing forecast system with the support of numerical simulation and modelling. Second part of the course will be dealt with economic evaluation of water resources, flood damage assessment and flood mitigation project option. This course also highlights early warning- and evacuation systems for flood-related disasters adopted in many developed countries and developing cities in the tropics.
