The Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Center (DPPC), Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be organizing two Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Dialogue Series 2020 with the themes of “Understanding Systemic Risk and Translating Policy into Practice” and “Investing in Risk-Sensitive Urban Development for Societal Resilience“. This event is jointly organized in conjunction with the 5-years anniversary of our disaster center (DPPC), and the Master of Disaster Risk Management (MDRM) program. DRM Dialogue Series 2020 aims at exchanging some best practices, benchmarking cost-effective methods, and exploring strategic solutions for timely, rapid response and build-back better and faster. We also address the global demand and local actions as a result of dual challenges of climate-induced disaster risk and COVID-19 pandemic. We are also happy to promote a multi-stakeholder approach in addressing systemic risk, DRR investment, and risk-informed sustainable development in a changing climate.

The DRM Virtual Seminar Series 2020 addresses the issues, challenges and possible solutions in responding to dual challenges of climate-induced disaster and COVID-19 pandemic towards achieving the global agenda of UNDRR Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. Theme of this event is “Redefining multi-stakeholder roles and adapting new normal“. This event is jointly organized in conjunction with the 5-years anniversary of our disaster center (DPPC), and the Master of Disaster Risk Management (MDRM) program. DRM Virtual Seminar Series 2020 aims at exchanging some best practices, benchmarking cost-effective methods, and exploring strategic solutions for timely, rapid response and build-back better and faster. The Control Measures and Mitigation Planning (MMJD1133) is one of core courses offered in the Master of Disaster Risk Management (MDRM) Program by Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT). In the academic semester 2020/2021, this course will be offered in a virtual mode due to recent spike of COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia and its control movement order (MCO) ordered by the Malaysia Government.
MDRM Program is co-designed and co-implemented with strategic partners to address the needs and demand of policy makers, disaster managers, professionals, practitioners, and future leaders in the field of disaster risk management (DRM), disaster risk reduction (DRR) and disaster resilience. This post-graduate course is one of important commitments of MJIIT in providing a high-impact higher education program to elevate the capacity of our mid-career professionals, advance their understanding and nurture our future disaster managers in the region towards supporting the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, New Urban Agenda, Paris Agreement, and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
