The 7th Malaysia–Japan Tribology Symposium (MJTS2026) was successfully held from 27–29 July 2026 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. Organised by TriPreM, MJIIT, together with the Japanese Society of Tribologists (JAST) and the Malaysian Tribology Society (MYTRIBOS), the symposium continued its role as a platform for strengthening research and professional connections between Malaysia and Japan.
MJTS2026 brought together researchers, students and industry representatives through keynote lectures, an industry–academia–government forum, oral and poster presentations, industry pitching, networking activities, laboratory engagement and a technical excursion. The technical programme featured 50 research presentations, comprising 20 oral and 30 poster presentations, with participants representing Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia.
We are also proud to celebrate the achievements of TriPreM members who received awards during MJTS2026. Nurul Fatihah Binti Mohd Safri, together with her research team, received the MYTRIBOS Special – Best Poster Award for their work on Effect of Shot Peening-Induced Surface Integrity on the Mechanical and Tribological Performance of Trivalent Chromium Coatings. Meanwhile, Wong Zi Jie received the MJTS Best Poster Presenter Award for his presentation on Effect of Relative Humidity and Countersurface Roughness on Tribological Properties of Rubber-Metal Sliding.
Beyond the technical sessions, Japanese participants and TriPreM members also joined a technical excursion to Ladang Krau 4, Kilang Sawit Mempaga, and the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre, providing opportunities to connect tribology research with real industrial operations and Malaysian manufacturing heritage.
MJTS2026 was not only about sharing research—it was about building connections, encouraging young researchers and creating new possibilities for Malaysia–Japan collaboration.
