Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) Eco Park

The Community-Based Geological Disaster Risk Management Program (CBDRM) is a national aspiration to enhance preparedness, strengthen resilience and empower local communities in the face of emerging hazards. This CBDRM is part of the main scope of mapping services, geomorphological analysis and community-based geological disaster threat mitigation in Taman Eko Rimba- TER (Eco Park). This impactful CBDRM program is the first of its kind to be implemented in a targeted manner based on geological input and field evidence. The empowerment of stakeholders, especially Rangers of the Forestry Department, Mountain Guide and stakeholders in the TER area is very important in ensuring the level of visitor safety, and the assessment of future risks that will pose a threat to the local community in the downstream area of the TER.

The Department of Minerals and Geosciences (JMG), Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Climate Change Malaysia is implementing an impactful program in reducing the risk of geological disasters in the Eco Park (TER) area through mapping services, geomorphological analysis and community-based geological disaster threat mitigation. The development and implementation of this service is monitored by the Malaysian Association of Geoscience Consultants and Services (MyGEO). The implementation of the Community-Based Geological Disaster Risk Management Program (CBDRM) is carried out in nine Eco Park (TER) locations in the states of Kedah, Terengganu, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan, through five appointed consulting companies and UTM as the
implementing partner.
