MDRM Open Day 2022

Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur will be organising an annual DRM event as follows:-

This program aims at showcasting the Master of Disaster Risk Management (MDRM) and the Certified Professional Training (CPT) for those interested to strengthen their professional knowledge and skills in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and build networks with various DRRM stakeholders in Malaysia. It features talks from the MDRM lecture team and alumni of the programme in which many are active in contributing to DRRM efforts under COVID-19 in the respective sectors. This program opens to all disaster managers and volunteers, government and non-governmental agencies, practitioners and interested parties to gather any ideas/suggestions and assess the need/demand for capacity building programs required by them in the field of disaster risk reduction and management.

SEP-DRD Training of Trainers (ToT) Program (Theory) for SSJ Kenyir and SSJ Pergau

Disaster Preparedness & Prevention Centre (DPPC), Malaysia – Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with TNB Research will be organizing a Training of Trainers (ToT) program under the Stakeholder Engagement for Dam Related Disaster (SEP-DRD) project that will be held from 18 until 20 July 2022 at Sakura Room, MJIIT, UTM Kuala Lumpur. This ToT is one of the activities organized under this project.

The Stakeholder Engagement Programme (SEP) for Dam Related Disaster (DRD) is a collaboration between Tenaga Nasional Berhad Research (TNBR) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), which started in 2020 and is expected to end by 2023. This project offers a community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR) Training of Trainer (ToT) module for promoting disaster education, enhancing disaster preparedness among vulnerable communities in the dam vicinity, and developing a resilient society in Malaysia in order to avert dam-related disasters. The SEP-DRD program is in line with the Malaysian Government’s commitment to achieving the targets and demands of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), including aspirations multi-agency government in reducing disaster risk, avoiding future risks, and strengthening community resilience to disasters and climate change.

Program ini adalah program berimpak tinggi dalam memperkasakanakan kesiapsiagaan dan daya tahan komuniti. Ini sebahagian dari komitmen kerajaan dan pihak berkepentingan terhadap pengurangan risiko bencana geologi melalui projek perintis pembangunan Sistem Amaran Awal (EWS) dan pemantauan bencana geologi aliran puing dan tanah runtuh di kawasan sekitar Gunung Jerai, Yan, Kedah.

In conjunction with the United Nations (UN) International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction which is held on 13 October every year, this program aims to achieve the following outputs and commitments:-

  1. To understand regional issues and global challenges related to multi-challenges of COVID-19 pandemic, extreme weather events, and climate-induced disaster in vulnerable cities;
  2. To build the regional and local capacity by reinforcing risk-informed decision making for action and realigning domestic DRR and resilience strategies;
  3. To build up the scientific knowledge, innovation and education and strengthen the disaster preparedness for effective response at all levels;
  4. To develop a set of key recommended actions to strengthen debris flow disaster policy, technical solutions, and advocacy based on science and technology for building disaster resilient society;
