On 27 September, DPPC team conducted its regular business meeting with the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) together with Professor Kuniyoshi Takeuchi and JICA Malaysia Office to discuss on the role of Science and Technology for Disaster Risk Management.
Professor Takeuchi shared his experiences of establishing ICHARM (International Centre for Water Hazard) that has been assisting disaster agencies and managers globally to build their resilience particularly for water related disasters. He advised that in order for NaDMA to be able to enforce its role as a coordinating agency, it needs to first build its unique in-house technology.
It was agreed in the meeting that NaDMA could utilize DPPC’s comparative advantage to integrate training, research and field practice to effectively strengthen its role to implement and monitor the goals set in the Sendai Framework for DRR.
