A Sharing Session by Ybhg. Dato’ Wei Chuan Beng

A Sharing Session by Ybhg. Dato’ Wei Chuan Beng

MJIIT was blessed to have Ybhg. Dato’ Wei Chuan Beng, a respected and successful leader in the technology business as our honourable guest speaker here at UTM Kuala Lumpur. He is the founder and managing director of REDTone Group, a leading broadband service provider for corporate in Malaysia and also the chairman of PIKOM, the National ICT Association Malaysia. On top of that, he is also a proud alumnus of UTM!

A special thanks to Prof. Dr. Shamsul Sahibuddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor UTM Kuala Lumpur for his inauguration speech and to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhayati Abdullah for chairing the wonderful event.

In his speech, Dato’ Wei Chuan Beng shared that along the way of being an entrepreneur, he discovered that his journey is not only journey of leadership and entrepreneurship, it is also a journey of learning. Entrepreneurship is not an easy feat, it is from the hardships that you are learning about life. He gave the audiences a pondering thought to put oneself in other people shoes and see the way other people see of which forms the basis of an entrepreneur.

Dato’ Wei Chuan Beng also mentioned a short but concise quote, “FAIL QUICK, LEARN FAST” which tells us that if you are not failing, then you will not learning. REDTone for instance, has achieved a whopping hundred millions of sales but facing challenges and some failures along the way. It is from failures that teaches us to move forward. It is either YOU SUCCEED or YOU LEARNED.

He also highlighted that DECISION-MAKING is what will be determining of where you will be in the future. There are people that are very CONCIOUS about their decision. People who decided to live healthy, will choose the way to
be healthy. No decision is safe and if there is, it’s the STATUS QUO; you choose to sit back and relax while not learning anything. He stated to be a successful entrepreneur, it all starts with the first step, then comes in the decision-making process.

The most interesting point in his speech is about the PURPOSE of being an entrepreneur. To be a good entrepreneur, you will work your way to making profits. But by being a great and true entrepreneur, “making profits is an honourable responsibility”, he added. True entrepreneurs will think to solve the world greatest problems and to have a big heart. Problems always mean opportunities and bigger problems will lead to bigger opportunities.

To sum it all up, he quoted from Victor Hugo: “There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come.”

We are grateful for the wonderful and really inspiring speech and we wish you the best in all of your future endeavors sir!
