 Biography

Yasuhisa Ando received his M.S. degree in system science in 1987 and his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering in 1997, both from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan.

He started his research work in Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (MEL) at 1989. In the first 10 years, he devoted himself into micro-machine project (national R&D program) organized by Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and studied the tribological issues in micro-machines. In 2001, MEL and other national laboratories had been merged into National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). His research subjects in AIST were micro/nano-tribology, development of micro-devices for improving measurement technologies, micro/nano-fabrication using focused ion beam (FIB), development of novel nano-patterning methods, among others. He became the leader of Tribology Group in AIST in 2003 and moved to Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in 2010.

He is currently the professor of mechanical systems engineering at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He is currently studying the application of micro-fabrication techniques into studies on tribology and related science fields.
