Ir. Dr. Sanjayan Velautham

Chief Executive Officer, Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA)

He has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, international organisation, an academia and research institutes. A professional engineer (P.Eng.) with a doctoral degree in Engineering and a Senior Member at the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia. He is also an Advisory Board Member for the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC), Japan.  Maintains a mix of appointments and engagements in several countries within the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, working with decision makers in government, academia, industry and civil society.

Prior to his present appointment he was the Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy in Indonesia. He had started his career at Tenaga Nasional Bhd. (TNB) in Malaysia within the Power Generations Division, including several years as an Assoc. Prof. at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He had moved to Singapore in 2008 initially as the Deputy Director with the Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and then with General Electric as Region Manager for the Power Generation Services business. He had also served as the National Project Manager for the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP Malaysia) BioGen Project.

Ir. Dr. Sanjayan has authored several publications in international journals/ books and subject modules particularly in the field of energy. His interest among others is to continue to engage in the strategy and policy research related to sustainable energy development within the region.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Waleed Fakhr

Professor, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport

Dr. Mohamed Waleed Fakhr has a PhD. from university of Waterloo, Canada, 1994, in the field of neural networks and pattern recognition.
He has more than 25 years experience particularly in the fields of neural networks, deep learning, machine learning, signal processing and time-series forecasting.
Dr. Fakhr has worked for 5 years (1994-1999) as a researcher at NORTEL Speech Recognition Lab, Montreal Canada. Since 1999, Dr. Fakhr has been a professor at the computer engineering department, Arab Academy for Science and Technology, Egypt. Dr. Fakhr has more than 100 conference and journal publications in the areas of neural networks, speech recognition, time-series forecasting, computer vision and deep learning. He is an editor and reviewer at the Applied Soft Computing Journal, and a regular reviewer at the Multimedia Tools and Applications and the Neural Computing and Applications Journals.

Prof. Emeritus Dr. Saburo Matsui

Prof. Emeritus Dr. Saburo Matsui

Professor Emeritus, Kyoto University

Saburo Matsui has been conducting research on micro-pollutants in water for more than 30 years. A distinguished scholar, engineer and scientist, he is currently an Emeritus Professor of the Department of Technology and Ecology at Kyoto University. His widely recognized research in water pollution control includes industrial wastewater treatment, sewage treatment, ecological sanitation, eutrophication of lakes, and micro-pollutants of heavy metals, DNA damaging and endocrine disturbance. He is recognized for global contributions to advancement of aquatic sciences.

Saburo Matsui was born in Osaka, Japan in 1944 and after completing his education at Kyoto University’s eminent environmental engineering and sanitary sciences program, he went to University of Texas to earn a Ph.D.

Matsui has been a long time contributor to the International Water Association and was a member of Scientific and Technical Panel of Global Environmental Facility, United Nations. He has also received the Academic Prize from the Japan Society on Water Environment and the Vollenweider Lectureship in Aquatic Sciences from the Canadian National Water Research Institute, which is granted annually to an eminent freshwater scientists.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeong Che Fai

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeong Che Fai

Associate Professor, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Dr Yeong Che Fai is an Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He graduated with PhD from Imperial College London and his MEng & BEng are from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. His interests are in embedded system, robotics, innovations and entrepreneurship. He has won more than 100 awards in innovation and entrepreneurship, such as SOBA, British Invention Show, APICTA, ROBOCON and MOE Entrepreneurship Mentor Award. He was in Austrian Leadership Program (Vienna) and also Newton Fund Leader in Innovation Fellowship Program (London) sponsored by respective government. He is a serial entrepreneur and has co-founded several companies. One of the companies, DF Automation & Robotics, produces Industry 4.0 enabled robots which have been exported to US, UK, Mexico, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines, among others. Another company, Techcare Innovation Sdn. Bhd., focuses on rehabilitation robots and assistive technology.
