Microscopy Lab Workshop Series 4: FESEM-EDS & Sample Preparation https://mjiit.utm.my/microscopy-lab/2018/07/31/microscopy-lab-workshop-series-4-fesem-eds-sample-preparation/ Tue, 31 Jul 2018 07:06:59 +0000 http://mjiit.utm.my/microscopy-lab/?p=1806

Advanced microscopy is one of the most essential techniques in micro/nano-characterization to extract important information on the specimens. Efficient uses of advanced microscopy equipment require not only skills in equipment operation but also sufficient knowledge on the mechanism of image-formation in micrographs as well as good experiences of practical application of analysis to research. MJIIT Microscopy Lab Workshop Series aims to assist researchers and technicians to develop their skills and knowledge in order to encourage efficient uses of microscopy equipment and advance nano-characterization in Malaysia.

Following the successfulness of our Workshop Series 1-3, we are glad to inform that we will organize another one, which is MJIIT Microscopy Laboratory Workshop Series 4 in cooperation with JEOL (M) SDN BHD. We are focusing on the fundamental knowledge and basic operation of FESEM – EDS as well as specimen preparation. We are pleased to welcome young engineers and researchers of all related industries and universities to join the MJIIT Microscopy Lab Workshop Series-4.

About Our Workshop:

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

Advanced microscopy of FETEM is an essential technique in micro/nano-characterization to gather information on sample structure, defects, particle size and elemental composition/distribution. Efficient use of advanced microscopy equipment requires operators /researchers to have good knowledge on micro/nano-characterization; and sufficient skills in operation.

The Microscopy Laboratory of MJIIT organizes a series of workshops where a small number of trainees study thoroughly practical knowledge and skills in micro/nano-characterization, starting from Series 1 : FETEM/STEM.

The main topics covered in these course are:

1) Basic theory of FETEM/STEM & Sample Preparation

2) Demonstration on sample preparation using FIB-FESEM (FEI Helios Nanolab G3), and sample imaging using the FETEM (JEOL JEM-2100F)

3) Hands-on practice on using FETEM/STEM

4TH WORKSHOP ON SAMPLE PREPARATION AND MICROSTRUCTURAL ANALYSIS 2017 https://mjiit.utm.my/microscopy-lab/2017/08/29/sample-preparation-and-microstructural-analysis/ Tue, 29 Aug 2017 02:39:17 +0000 http://mjiit.utm.my/microscopy-lab/?p=1505

This workshop welcomes all related industries and researchers in Malaysia to join and learn about microstructure analysis. The workshop also covers the additional knowledge on sample preparation for microstructure and mechanical testing from industrial experts by using high end equipment.

This two-days workshop is prepared to address most of the issues faced in sample preparation for microstructure analysis. At the end of workshop, it is hope that participants will understand what happens when sample is mounted, ground, polished and then observed under electron/ optical microscopes. Besides that, participants will also be exposed on the principle of microstructural analysis such as optical microscope, image processing analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). During the workshop also, participants will have chance to apply their knowledge gained from the lectures in preparing their own samples prior to microscopic and sample analysis using the available equipmen
