Assoc Prof Ts Dr. Mohd Fauzi bin Othman

Assoc Prof Ts Dr. Mohd Fauzi bin Othman is currently working with the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) and is also a member of the Centre of Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (CAIRO), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wollongong, Australia in 1990, Master’s Degree in Electrical Power System from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia in 1996, and PhD in Intelligent Control System from the University of Sheffield, UK in 2004. Currently he is also serving as an Adjunct Professor at the Tokyo City University, Japan. His area of expertise is in Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Intelligent System, Control System Stability, Industrial Automation and AI Imaging. He has obtained more than 35 research grants with a total of RM4.6 million. Till now, 15 students have been awarded the Doctorate degree under his supervision and more than 100 reputed research articles have been published in his credit with more than 23 Impact Factor.  In 2017, he gained both the Certified Energy Manager from AEMAS and Professional Certificate for Entrepreneurial Leader@ELP, Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership from Swansea University, UK.  He is now the founder and CEO for a UTM spin-off company called AI and Automation Solution Sdn Bhd. He has also been awarded the Professional Membership of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), IEEE, Malaysian Board of Technologist (MBOT), Malaysian Society for Automatic Control Engineers (MACE) and IET.

ABSTRACT

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a topic of attention nowadays in which it has changed the  ways we work and live. Thanks to it, machines have not only  become smarter, but also more intelligent. Bearing this in mind, the following questions are what I will address in my speech. What motivates researcher to relentlessly continue their research on AI?  What makes students nowadays choose the career in AI related jobs? What is the driving force behind  the call for business start ups to setup and venture in AI related companies? And finally, what is the direction of the governments towards implementing AI roadmap?
