Postgraduate Admission
1. Entry Requirements
Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
The entrance requirements include a good Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field (BEng, BSc) from a Malaysian institution of higher learning, or an equivalent qualification from any international institution of higher learning as recognized by the Senate of UTM. Students with approved experiential learning would have a distinct advantage.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Students must have a good Masters degree in a related technical field from a Malaysian institution of higher learning, or an equivalent qualification from any international institution of higher learning as recognized by the Senate of UTM. Students with approved experiential learning would have a distinct advantage.
Language Requirements
International students must have proof of English language proficiency. Refer HERE
2. Registration
The registration is open throughout the year.
Interested students are advised to contact MJIIT at mjiit@utm.my in the first instance for a discussion on possible research topics and potential supervisors before admission. Detailed information may also be obtained from the Postgraduate Brochure.
3. Application Procedure

Undergraduate Admission
1. Entry Requirements (1st Year Student)
(A) MoHE Matriculation Programme Holders:
(KPM Matriculation/ UTM Asasi / UM Asasi Sains / UiTM Asasi)
Bachelor of Electronic System Engineering with Honours
University General Requirement with Programme Specific Requirements
- Pass KPM Matriculation / UTM Asasi / UM Asasi Sains / UiTM Asasi with CGPA of at least 2.50
- And achieve at least a ‘B-’ in subject as follows:
- Mathematics
- Physics/ Engineering Physics
- And achieve Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 2
- And pass with credit (Gred C) in following subjects at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- And not handicapped that can prevent them from doing practical work
Bachelor of Mechanical Precision Engineering with Honours
University General Requirement with Programme Specific Requirements
- Pass KPM Matriculation / UTM Asasi / UM Asasi Sains / UiTM Asasi with CGPA of at least 2.50
- And achieve at least a ‘B-’ in subject as follows:
- Mathematics

- And achieve Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 2

(A) Diploma Holders and equivalent
Bachelor of Electronic System Engineering with Honours
University General Requirement with Programme Specific Requirements
- Obtained a Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Electronic/Mechatronic/Communication)
from UTM or Institution of Higher Learning (IPT) with CGPA of at least 2.50
And pass with credit in the following subjects at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level:

- Physics
- Or at least a (Grade B-) in any Physics subject at Diploma level.
- And achieve the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 2
- And not handicapped that can prevent them from doing practical work
Bachelor of Mechanical Precision Engineering with Honours

- Obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Core/ Industrial / Manufacturing / Aeronautics / Automotive) from UTM or Institution of Higher Learning (IPT) with CGPA of at least 2.50
- And pass with credit in the following subjects at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Or at least a (Grade B-) in any Physics subject at Diploma level.
- And achieve the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 2
- And not handicapped that can prevent them from doing practical work
Bachelor of Chemical Process Engineering with Honours
University General Requirement with Programme Specific Requirements
- Obtained a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from Institution of Higher Learning (IPT) with CGPA of at least 2.50
- And pass with credit in the following subjects at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Or at least a (Grade B-) in any Physics subject at Diploma level.
- And achieve Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 2
- And not handicapped that can prevent them from doing practical work
3. Entry Requirements (International Student)
- At least the Senior High School Certificate/Senior Secondary School/other equivalents pre-university examination form the government school (with the period of at least 12 years of study from primary to higher secondary) ;
- Or general Certificate of Education (GCE) ‘A’ Level, Diploma in the related field or other equivalent pre-university examinations;
- Any other certificate that is recognised by Senate of the University equivalent to the above;
- And Programme’s specific requirements;
- And language requirements
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
All international students applying to UTM must have a TOEFL 500 (or TOEFL (IBT) >59)
or an IELTS Band 5.5 or MUET Band 3
