46 first year students from Mechanical Precision Engineering(MPE) are went to Fukuoka Yakult Plant for their first company visit in GMP program. The factory not located in Yamaguchi prefecture but in Fukuoka, Kyushu Island. The journey took around 2 hours from Yamaguchi to Fukuoka. The main purpose of this site visitwas to give an exposure to student about the production of healthy drink by the company of Yakult.
Dr. Minoru Shirota became the first in the world to successfully culture a fortified strain of lactic acid bacteria that is beneficial to human health at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Kyoto Imperial University in 1930.
The bacteria was named Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota after Dr. Shirota himself.
Yakult Fukuoka Plant Co., Ltd. is a fluid milk processor in Chikushino. This public company was founded in 1969. With 777 other locations, the organization is a member of a large, complex corporate structure.

Yakult is made from skimmed milk powder, sugar, glucose, Natural identical flavour, water and LcS. A small amount of sugar is added to provide nutrients to LcS in order to keep them alive during shelf life.
