On 8th January 2018, a seminar on Control Measures and Mitigation Planning was held at Seminar Hall, Menara Razak from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The plenary speaker was Prof. Ir. Dr. Kenichi Tsukahara from Kyushu University. He is also one of the lecturers for MMJD1133 Control Measures and Mitigation Planning module. The invited speakers were Prof. Ir. Dr. Zuhairi Abd. Hamid, the Chief Executive Officer of Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM); Dato’ Zakaria Mohamad, Scientific Expert Panel to National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA); Prof. Dr. Reimund Schwarze, Head of Department for Climate Economics, European University Viadrina, Frankfurt; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shohei Matsuura, JICA Expert in Disaster Risk Reduction at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT). Ir. Bibi Zarina Che Omar, Director of Mitigation Planning, NADMA, was also attended this seminar and invited as the panel during the discussion session.

The seminar was divided to two sessions with session 1 entitled “Public and Private Investment in Disaster Risk Prevention and Reduction” and session 2 entitled “Science and Technology Action for Disaster – Resilient Society”. The seminar kicks off with welcoming remarks from the Dean of MJIIT, Prof. Datin Dr. Rubiyah Yusof followed by keynote speeches from Prof. Kenichi Tsukahara and Dr. Shohei Matsuura. The seminar continues with the first session talks by Prof. Kenichi Tsukahara, Dato’ Zakaria Mohamad and Prof. Reimund Schwarze. The second session continues after lunch hour with talks by Prof. Kenichi Tsukahara, Prof. Ir. Zuhairi Abd. Hamid and Dr. Khamarrul Azahari Razak. The second session finish off with discussion session with all of the panellist. All of the speakers involved during the whole seminar was the panellist, with the addition of Ir. Bibi Zarina Che Omar. Prof. Masafumi Goto, Director of DPPC officiate the closing session and the seminar adjourn at 5.30 p.m.
